As you may have noticed from the photo in the new header, I installed some antlers above our sofa.
We moved the artwork that was originally above the sofa into the dining area against the black wall as the colours look a lot more vivid against such a dark wall.
When my Opa passed away and my Oma moved out of their very large house into a much smaller apartment of course she had to purge so I took two antlers that used to hang in their garage and bar area. I took them 7 years ago never knowing what I would actually do with them but they definitely make the perfect focal point now.
I also didn’t want to purchase another large canvas to put above our sofa just for the heck of it when we already have one hanging in the dining area. I wanted to add some more dimension. For once in my life I didn’t rush into any decisions and I left the wall blank to really figure out what I wanted. I thought that maybe the antlers on their own might be a little plain so I thought about adding something else like a giant gold frame or maybe creating an off balance arrangement with a couple of smaller canvasses off to the side but in the end simplicity got the best of me and I’m so glad I actually went with my initial thoughts.
Like any major decision I make, I usually regret it right-a-ways but only for a moment. As soon as I put a big hole in our wall and hung up the antlers I wanted to cry. I hated it. Or so I thought. But then I stood back, looked away, looked again and I was in love. I can’t imagine my home without antlers as crazy as it sounds!
And to “winterize” things, I layered yet another rug on top of my rugs. The faux sheepskin from IKEA just adds a nice texture to the space.
So, for about $150 I took our space from this….

So what do you think of antlers in home decor? Are they a nay or yay for ya?
