Well aside from redecorating our living area, I’ve also been decorating a nursery. Being the person I am, as soon as I found out that my sister-in-law and brother-in-law were having a baby I couldn’t help myself from pinning nursery ideas. I even had a secret Pinterest board just so that I wouldn’t spoil it for anyone!
However, this isn’t your typical sized nursery. The SIL and BIL live in a 600 square foot, one bedroom, one den condo downtown so naturally, the den got cleared out and we turned it into a nursery. Before the gender of the baby was even determined I knew I wanted to keep the walls the original neutral colour, Revere Pewter by Benjamin Moore. Not only is it gender neutral but when they do decide to sell, it’s better for resale, and then painting this room is one less thing they (or I ) have to worry about. This picture was clearly taken before the crib arrived and before the baby shower. That shelf looks a little fuller now…
The room measures about 5′x6′ with a set of doors taking up one entire wall. Of course there was no closet in this room so we had to think smart and functional and after look at all the shelving options at IKEA we ended up going with the very practical Billy Bookcase. Every household needs one of these. We went with the Billy for four reasons: 1) It had the most height and with the ceilings being 9′ we wanted to take full advantage of the vertical space. 2) It’s the least deep of the IKEA bookshelves. At only 5′ wide we couldn’t have something that protrudes into the space. 3) It’s super practical. They can take this with them to the next house and use it in an office, living room, bedroom, wherever! 4) It’s super affordable!
This picture gives you an idea of how small the room is. I’m standing in one corner and the bookcase is right up against the door kitty corner.
I did some crib hunting for them and they ultimately decided on the Alma Mini. It fits perfectly in the space without taking over the room, it folds up for easy transportation, it comes with casters so they you can move it easily around your space, and it comes with a change table that fits right on top of the crib (sold separately of course) but it saves you from having to find the space for a change table.
With the room being a total of only 30 square feet there wasn’t a lot that had to go into the space to make it feel like a nursery. I purchased all four prints from three different Etsy shops:
And of course they are placed in my favourite, Ikea Ribba frames.
Is this not the sweetest quilt you’ve ever seen?! I didn’t give them a whole lot of direction, I knew they were highly talented so I let them go to town and when it arrived in the mail it was just like I envisioned. The colours are perfect. Girly without being diva girly.
I made this little banner from some coordinating ribbon that I found at the dollar store. I used it at the baby shower and it’s draped over the crib for now but I’ll be finding another home for it…possibly draping it on a wall somewhere…hmm…but if it doesn’t get used in this room it can always find a home in her next bedroom or possibly even use it as a tutu when she’s playing dress-up
I hope you like your room Miss Jordynn
